Library Services

World Book Day 02 March

Being a rural community there is little in the form of permanent services.  One boon is the visit by the mobile library.  Ours is based in Newtown and visits the village for 10 minutes, every fortnight.  If you blink you can miss it on a Thursday at 12-50 h on odd week numbers.  The location is the pub car park.

It's sad to say, it isn't a well patronised service in our village.  This might explain our allotted time.  The visit co-insides with the assistants lunch break, so at least the staff do get to enjoy the view.  The up side is that you can browse at leisure, all 10 minutes of it.  The choice of materials is surprising considering it's out the back of a lorry;
- good cross section of fact and fiction
- large print books for the TOG's amongst us
- talking books, proper ones with nothing taken out
and the biggest bonus, whatever you ask for, they seem to be able to conjure up in subsequent visits.

This is not limited to the mobile version.  Llanfair Caereinion, located in the Institute is open for 10 h
per week.  Maureen has located some "off the beaten track" books for us.  The books are always clean with a good sprinkling of new ones.

For find it yourself people, Welshpool (and I presume other Powys libraries) have a system called Dynex. Now it is available on-line at http://library.powys.gov.uk/search  Go to Library Services then Catalogue to search to your hearts content for any book in print. If you have your library card with its number, log in and see what you have been up to. When logged on books can be ordered and dispatched to whichever library you would like to collect them from. For anything out of the ordinary which is not listed, E Mail your local branch from the list provided.
A real hum-dinger of a service!

We used to have a Local Associations section accessible via the blue buttons on the left. This has fallen by the way side, some members didn't like the exposure. On the same library section there is a wonderful section on local groups, such as book reading groups and helpful organisations for new users. Give it a try, use the Llanfair Caereinion Area to get you going. Sorry none of the local ones?

Powys County Council offer blistering speed internet access in their fixed premises. Welshpool has an HP 4500 scanner linked to Machine 1. It is very good but does produce very large file for transfer.
