Local Produce.

While researching our local area it has become evident that there are many local producers of food that sell their surplus at the gate or at markets in the traditional manner. 

During May 2004 we had the opportunity to attend a sponsored course about Lamb Butchery at Cambrian Training - Welshpool. The now defunct Powys Food Links were behind this idea. It was very helpful and enabled us to take a whole pig carcass and cut as required. Thank You.

Guide prices for August 2003 are below which is aging now. Lamb prices don't seemed to have moved much though?;

Lamb £45 - £50 for half, cut from a minimum carcass weight of 18 kg. Includes leg and shoulder cut into 2/3 joints, chops in 2/3 on trays, kidney and minted lamb burgers.
Beef £120 per box of 18 kg. Half boxes available with other customers. Contain steaks, joints, mince, burgers. Give them a call for up to date prices.

The important bit, lamb is hung for 7 - 10 days and beef for 3 to 4 weeks. Looks better and has taste.

 Neuadd Fach Baconry is at Llandinam.  They have a good choice that appears to be reasonably priced.  Delivery is inclusive in Montgomeryshire, conditions apply.  Check their site out, you won't be disappointed. We like their produce and order regularly. They will provide a whole pig for freezing or half boxes when there is another demand. We recently took delivery of a packaged pig from them. Truly sensational, nice lean meat, well presented and bagged for the freezer. In November they won another Silver Award for their produce, I can really understand why, you cannot fail to be impressed. (Follow the link to the WDA listing pdf. Page 5 is the detail)

Don't forget us. Surplus produce sold at the gate.  Eggs from the mob, seasonal vegetables and plants to grow your own.
